The Bailey School of Music at 榴莲黄视频 is proud to offer a dynamic lineup of outreach events designed to inspire and connect young musicians across the region. This year鈥檚 offerings include the North Georgia Honor Orchestra, the Orchestra Invitational, and the ever-popular Jazz Fest at the Nest.

We are also delighted to host our annual Band and Orchestra Director Symposiums, immersive professional development experiences that provide music educators with hands-on learning, innovative teaching strategies, and opportunities to collaborate with colleagues from across the Southeast.

In addition, we invite prospective students and families to experience our vibrant community firsthand at our Fall and Spring Open Houses, where you can meet faculty, explore our facilities, and learn more about studying music at KSU. Whether you're a student, educator, or music enthusiast, there's something for everyone in this season of musical growth and discovery.

Jazz Fest at the Nest

Saturday, May 2, 2026

On May 2, 2026, we will host the fifth 鈥Jazz Fest at the Nest鈥 at our beautiful campus and top-notch Geer College of the Arts facilities from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (registration starts at 8:00 a.m.). We are thrilled about another opportunity to make jazz education enjoyable, accessible, affordable, and beneficial for your students and your music program. 

As a music educator, you may nominate students you feel would benefit from鈥撯揳nd contribute to鈥撯搕his event. Additionally, students who would like to participate without a nomination may sign up and submit their audition videos. Our team will sort students into jazz groups based on experience, skill level, and director recommendation.  What types of groups? We will offer big band ensembles and (limited) jazz combo groups.

Join the 榴莲黄视频 Bands for the 5th Annual KSU Summer Band Director Symposium 4-day workshop.

Presenters:

  • Brandon Meeks, Director of Athletic Bands and Assistant Professor of Music, KSU
  • Rachel Sorenson, Assistant Professor of Music Education (Instrumental), KSU

This symposium for high school and middle school band directors will provide morning conducting sessions in front of a large band ensemble playing significant repertoire followed by afternoon sessions on technique, rehearsal strategy, literature, repertoire, instrumental pedagogy.

Summer Orchestra Directors Symposium

June 8-11, 2026

The 榴莲黄视频 Bailey School of Music is pleased to announce the 2026 Summer Orchestra Directors Symposium! This four-day event offers an immersive professional development experience focused on conducting and designed specifically for both middle and high school orchestra directors. Each afternoon will be devoted to physical conducting technique.

Conducting Participants will receive a total of at least 45 minutes of podium time over the course of the event, conducting the symposium lab orchestra under the guidance of Dr. Raphael Jim茅nez-Director of Orchestras & Ruth Strickland Gardner Professor of Conducting at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music-and KSU Director of Orchestral Studies, Dr. Nathaniel F. Parker. In addition to their podium time, Conducting Participants will also receive high-quality video recordings of their conducting sessions and one-on-one follow-up sessions with Dr. Jim茅nez and Dr. Parker.

Each morning features engaging sessions on a variety of conducting-related topics, including score study, programming, rehearsal techniques, and wellness in the orchestra classroom, led by Dr. Jim茅nez, Dr. Parker, and other distinguished members of the Bailey School of Music faculty.

Registration fees for all participation levels include admission to all morning and afternoon sessions, two lunches, and two evening "happy hour" meals. All participants will also serve as members of the symposium lab orchestra.
