FREE and Open to the Public!

Prospective School of Art and Design students and community members will have the opportunity to walk a self-guided tour of Chastain Pointe while classes are in session. 

  • ÁñÁ«»ÆÊÓÆµ the studio classrooms and watch KSU students work on their projects.
  • Meet students and professors and ask them questions as they work.
  • Participate in class discussions and watch demonstrations.

Prospective Students: Bring your portfolio and have it reviewed by our faculty members!

Several School of Art and Design faculty will be available to give high school students advice on the contents of their portfolio. Prospective students are invited to bring their drawings, small paintings, or photographs of their three-dimensional work for review. This opportunity is especially helpful for students planning to submit their entrance portfolio for acceptance into the School of Art and Design.

  • The School of Art & Design at ÁñÁ«»ÆÊÓÆµ admits students in the Fall (August) and Spring (January) semesters each year. The School of Art and Design Entry Portfolio requires 4 artworks and a 200-word artist statement: 

    1. Best technical artwork
    2. Best imaginative artwork
    3. Best example of how you sketch out (develop) an idea for art
    4. A "wildcard" example of your work

KSU School of Art & Design Laptop Recommendations

Digital literacy is crucial for 21st-century artists, designers, scholars, and educators. In First-year Foundations and other courses, students will switch between traditional materials and digital platforms. The laptop will serve as a creative tool and portable studio, allowing students to work smoothly across classrooms and other campus workspaces.

Therefore, students admitted to the ÁñÁ«»ÆÊÓÆµ School of Art and Design should have a laptop and a high-speed external hard drive. Students interested in the 3D Animation concentration are encouraged to purchase Dell or HP Windows/PC laptops. Students interested in the 2D Animation concentration and Graphic Communications are encouraged to buy MacBook Pro laptops. Students pursuing other programs, such as Studio Art, Art History, or Art Education, can succeed with either Windows/PC or Mac laptops.

Graduate Students

Master of Arts in Art and Design

The Master of Arts in Art and Design (M.A.) is a professional program that prepares leaders in artistic industries with embodied professional practice and pedagogy, as well as local and global engagement. Students will solve problems at an advanced level through collaborative inquiry with disciplinary experts. This interdisciplinary/integrated degree mirrors our desire to break free of the limits of discipline-specific constraints.

This fully online program offers concentrations in Art Education, Digital Animation and Museum Studies. 

 

  • Prospective graduate students are encouraged to attend one of our upcoming Information Sessions. These sessions will provide a comprehensive overview of the program, helping you determine how it aligns with your academic and creative goals.

      • Digital Animation:  A statement of creative intent that includes your artistic goals and reasons for applying to the MA.
    • Art and/or Writing Sample, relevant to concentration.
      • Digital Animation: A demo reel of animation or related work (illustration, sequential art, etc.) between thirty and sixty seconds in length.
      • Art Education: 5-10 pieces of art (any medium or modality) and a 1-2 page teaching philosophy.
      • Museum Studies: One 7-10 page writing sample. This may take the form of a class research paper, capstone, or thesis, or publication.
