"The Hoo" Basketball Band

Thank you for your interest in the 2025–2026 Edition of “The Hooâ€

We are very excited that you are considering joining us as we bring energy, excitement, and Owl spirit to every KSU Men’s and Women’s Basketball game this season. Being a member of The Hoo!! means more than playing music. It is about creating an unforgettable game day atmosphere, supporting our teams, and building lasting friendships.

Below you will find all of the information you need to prepare for your audition and plan for the season ahead.

Approximate Instrumentation:

**Subject to change based on audition results**

We will accept more than the numbers listed above on the instrumentation. The numbers listed above will be the required instrumentation for each game and members will be assigned to attend each game. Other members who wish to attend certainly may, however, only the required members will receive payment for that game. Students who are assigned to a specific game may also have other members substitute for them as long as the other members are not assigned to that game as well.

KSU provides tenor saxophones, mellophones, trombone, baritones, sousaphones, and drum set, plus the amp for electric bass.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Tournament games have limited instrumentation and we will reduce down to the paid members only. This is the same group that will travel to the C-USA Conference tournament as well as the NCAA March Madness Tournament. Note, tournament games are not paid since you may have the option to travel to March Madness.
  • No! The demands of NCAA basketball call for us to perform a wide variety of music very frequently during a game. To this end we don’t focus on memorization, but instead perform a large quantity of charts at a very high level – aided by your BEAM app and e-flip.
  • Yes. Pay schedules will be released in the KSU Basketball Band Handbook for members who receive a paid position.

Members must be enrolled as KSU students in both Fall 2024 and Spring 2025.
