RES 4100/6100: Responsible Conduct of Research
How do you know you are doing the right thing? Take the Responsible Conduct of Research course!
You might have noticed increasing coverage of research fraud and retractions in the news. Ever wonder why research needs to be retracted, and what drives people to commit research fraud? Do you feel immune to such lapses in judgement? Are you curious about how to maintain integrity in your own professional life?
We feel strongly that by establishing good research habits early in our careers, we can maintain high standards for research integrity and quality. Quality research and scholarship is directly dependent on the ethics and integrity of those doing the work. In addition, research sponsors are increasingly interested in the quality of training for up-and-coming researchers. Specifically, there is a concerted effort to give early researchers strong ethical foundations on which to build their careers.

If you want to learn more about research integrity and how to establish ethical research habits, enroll in the Responsible Conduct of Research Course! You will discover how fraud, abuse, and negligence in different aspects of research can degrade the overall quality of scholarship. You will discuss realistic cases and explore balancing your own professional ethics with your personal morals and ideals.
This class is zero-credit and Pass/Fail, with cross-listed sections for undergraduates (RES 4100) and graduate students (RES 6100). There is no cost for course materials, and very little work needed outside of the classroom. In addition, there are only 7 sessions per semester.
We hope to see you there!
