Purpose

The purpose of the Industry Advisory Board (IAB) of the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SPCEET) is to provide strategic counsel to the Dean, champion the college mission, and actively support fundraising initiatives. The IAB helps to strengthen the college's learning, research, and outreach programs, improve its facilities, and expand alumni and industry engagement. A key focus is to facilitate student success through internships, mentorships, and relevant opportunities. Through advocacy and collaboration, the IAB promotes the value of engineering in our state and community.  Members of the board:

  • Support the mission and vision of SPCEET.
  • Advocate on behalf of the departments and communicate the good news and works of students and faculty achievements.
  • Enhance the public understanding of changes and challenges related to higher education and clearly articulate how the mission, accomplishments and goals of the engineering and engineering technology programs at KSU relate to the rapidly changing economy in Georgia. This includes seeking opportunities for private presentations and presentations to community groups.
  • Garner private and public support for the engineering and engineering technology programs at KSU including internship opportunities and financial support.
  • Contribute $2,000 annually to the college. Contributions can be made through
the member's business affiliation or as a personal gift.
  • Commit to serving 3 years on the IAB with an optional 3-year renewal.
  • Recommend new board members.
  • Meet (2) times annually and members commit to attend at least one meeting each year. There will be ad-hoc committee meetings as well and the goal is to make all meetings as efficient and convenient as possible for participants.

Membership

The IAB is composed of a maximum of 36 members. The presence at a meeting of a majority of the members will constitute a quorum. The SPCEET Dean appoints the members with concurrence from the IAB chair.

Financial Considerations

As a volunteer, an IAB member will not receive compensation for travel and lodging expenses to meetings or events. However, some members deduct these expenses as a “gift in kind” contribution of service to the organization, which is a 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation. It is suggested that IAB members discuss this service as a contribution with your tax accountant.
